MELITA ISLAND PHOENIX PATROL


MISSION STATEMENT:

 A group of scouting volunteers who use the Boy Scout’s patrol method and the high ideals of scouting to support, conserve and protect Melita Island for the use of youth and scouting in Montana.

The Phoenix Patrol organized in 1999 as a tax exempt 501 C3 charitable corporation with the purpose of reestablishing Melita Island as a world class scout camp. Even though the Patrol is not a BSA organization or officially part of Montana Council, it has continually provided both volunteer and financial assistance to Montana Council and the Melita Island Camp Committee since its formation. The Patrol functions primarily as a fundraising and support organization.

MEMBERSHIP:

 Patrol Member – Membership in the Phoenix Patrol is open to anyone. A voting member is defined as any person who claims a desire to be a member of the Phoenix Patrol who has spent a night on Melita Island anytime in the past and has contributed services, money or material goods to either the Patrol or Melita Island within roughly the current past year. An actively contributing member:
• has a record of one day and night camping on Melita Island.
• initially identifies, supervises and/or assists an approved project to completion which benefits the island. Provides Melita Island with a minimum of ten hours of service in their first membership year.
• attempts to spend one night per year on the island (geographic location permitting) and provide a minimum of eight hours of service or the equivalent financial donation or participates in a work party or service weekend annually.
• understands that the $10.00 bi-annual dues are optional but is encouraged to contribute them to cover administrative expenses ($5.00 per year) Due in June.

PATROL POSITIONS:

Patrol Board Member - member of the non-profit corporation’s seven member board.

Patrol Office
r - one of the patrol’s key operational positions. Patrol Leader, Assistant Patrol Leader, Scribe, Quartermaster, Communications Master, Transportation Master, Resource Master, Archivist, etc. as needed.

Patrol Staff - assist in running events, activities, work parties, hosting visitors and service units.
