Tucked in the Flathead Valley of Northwest Montana, Flathead Lake sits next to the rugged grandeur of Glacier National Park and the western edge of several million acres of designated wilderness. The lake’s backdrop is the Swan and Mission Mountains rising to elevations of 6,500 feet and more. Flathead Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi; more than 300 feet deep and extending 28 miles long and 7-15 miles wide. Even though the lake is fresh water, the water rises and falls 12 feet each year due to Kerr Dam in Polson. |
